Editorial Policy

San Diego Family Law Advocates publishes plain-English information about California family law. Every page on this site is written, reviewed, and maintained under the standards below.

Sourcing

We cite primary California authority wherever possible: the California Family Code, the California Rules of Court, published Court of Appeal and Supreme Court decisions, the California Department of Child Support Services, the California Courts Self-Help Center, and the State Bar of California. Secondary sources are used only to summarize or contextualize primary law and are identified as such.

Attorney review

Every substantive page is reviewed by a California-licensed family law attorney before publication and again at least annually. Pages that discuss specific code sections, dollar thresholds, or procedural deadlines are flagged for review whenever those sources change.

Update cadence

Statutory pages (child support, spousal support, fee schedules) are reviewed each calendar year and after any meaningful legislative change. Procedural pages are reviewed when local San Diego Superior Court rules change. Last-reviewed dates appear on each article.

What this site is — and isn't

Pages on this site are general legal information, not legal advice. Reading them does not create an attorney-client relationship. Family law is fact-specific; only a consultation with a licensed attorney can tell you how the law applies to your situation.
